Call for Conference Panels and Papers

4th African International ECD Conference

 

Apart from keynote speeches, all papers will be presented on panels with two or more presenters and discussants. Five panels will be presented per time period.  The presenters and discussants will be African leaders, ministers, and ECD specialists, along with selected international ECD specialists. 

Unless a compelling rationale is submitted, all panels and papers must be relevant to: 1) the Conference Theme, and 2) one of the four sub-themes that are listed below.

Conference Theme
From Policy to Action: Expanding Investment in ECD for Sustainable Development

Conference Sub-Themes

    1. Expanding ECD investment and assessing costs
    2. Implementing and strengthening ECD policies and plans
    3. Increasing access to quality ECD services and going to scale
    4. Expanding services for vulnerable children affected by HIV/AIDS, war and severe poverty

Under each Sub-Theme, presenters are asked to address at least one of the following areas:

    • Day 1:  Why and how: rationale, knowledge and skills
    • Day 2:  What has been accomplished: experiences in planning and implementation
    • Day 3:  Who and when: planning next steps to expand and improve ECD

Panel Guidelines

  • You are strongly encouraged to submit papers that fit selected panel topics. (Please see the attached draft listing of panel topics.)
  • The duration of each panel will be 1.5 hours. 
  • No more than 4 presenters/discussants may be included on a panel. 
  • After the presentations and comments of discussants (if they are used), a minimum of 15 minutes will be devoted to open dialogue with the audience.
  • Presentations will be limited to 15 minutes.
  • Please use the attached format to submit your panel and/or paper.
  • Presenters will be asked to submit their papers by 10 September 2009. 
  • Some papers will be chosen for an upcoming book on expanding ECD investments and services in Africa

We have space for 30 panels.  Should we be unable to fit your paper into the program, we encourage you to also sign up for a poster presentation. (See the attached Call for Conference Poster Presentations).
